January 26, 2012-Your work is so valuable especially for people like Jerry who had previously enjoyed a rich Jewish spiritual and cultural life and are now isolated. Your visits were the highlight of his week. SL

January 16, 2012-Thank you for the time and goodies you offer at Madison House. Thanks to The Jewish Pavilion who have such wonderful people there and others who participate to make these visits and holiday celebrations very enjoyable. Fondly, E

January 12, 2012-I know how much my Mom valued her experiences with The Jewish Pavilion but most of all, the wonderful friendships she developed. She loved being part of The Jewish Pavilion and it’s clear she was loved as well. I miss not having my mother but take comfort knowing that she had a fulfilling life spent with people she cared about. My heartfelt thanks for making my Mom feel like she was truly special; and she was. With Appreciation, MS

December 20, 2011-We appreciate all you do.  Everyone enjoyed your program and the refreshments were very good!  We love the little Teddi bear and it occupies a nice place at the bottom of our TV where my wife can see it all the time.  We want to wish all of you Good Health, Good Luck and Much Happiness.  Love, M, I & D

November, 2011-We appreciate what the Jewish Pavilion does for the many, many senior residents at Horizon Bay.  I personally have seen how happy you make my mom and appreciate the generosity of all you volunteers. PE

October 5, 2011-I want to thank you for making me happy while in The Mayflower Rehab.  The attention I received from Ellen, Caleb & Aiden were so heartfelt and sincere.  The challahs were consumed with great gratitude. SS

July 7, 2011-I work with 40+ B’nai Mitzvah students every year. Along with preparing their prayers and Haftarot, they are required to perform a “mitzvah project”. It is some sort of community service that they, often along with their families, can participate in on a recurring basis. I realized that, although I am busy, I was not fulfilling my obligation towards “tikun olam” (literally repairing the world.) Several months ago Rabbi Rubinger gave a sermon explaining the importance of the work done by the Jewish Pavilion. I decided that my project could be to bring a musical Shabbat to a senior facility on a monthly basis. Too often, these seniors who often have supported the Jewish community their whole life, are cut off from the synagogues because of transportation, lack of mobility and other factors. The Village on the Green just happened to be the place that Roxane recommended. I find the residents there to be extremely welcoming, happy to participate and a real joy to be with. The number of attendees has increased, which is a good sign. I also like to add the “special” songs as a way of hopefully lifting their Shabbat experience to one of joy as well as spirit. June 1, 2011-I cannot thank the Jewish Pavilion enough for all they do for our residents at Savannah Court, they are all really making a difference and impacting lives! Thank you all so much for all you do! If there is absolutely anything I can do let me know. SL

May 27, 2011-Thank you for your support, kindness and caring and for being my father’s “Jewish Link” during his years in Florida. With love, BZ

May 7, 2011-This afternoon I visited an elderly resident in one of our facilities. She told me that she was so happy: Earlier today, she was visited by two of our student volunteers. She said she was sitting in her wheelchair, half dozing. When she looked up, she saw two handsome young men entering her room. “And”,she said,”they didn’t just come to say “hello”and then leave. They sat down and visited with me for a long time, talking to me on many different topics. They felt like old friends.” And, of course, they were. For many years, they had visited this woman in another facility. When she was moved to her present location, they then came to visit her here. Earlier, this month, they had come to visit her on her birthday bringing their special gift of good cheer.Such are the relationships that develop between our wonderful volunteers of all ages and the  elderly or disabled that no longer can live in their own homes.

May 4, 2011-Almost 3 years ago when I first started volunteering with the Jewish Pavilion, I never would have realized how much of an impact it would make on my life as well, as the seniors.   Recently, I celebrated Passover at a nursing home with two special residents. During the Seder one of the residents started crying and mentioned how these prayers brought her back to her past. She repeatedly thanked us, for had it not been for the Jewish Pavilion, she would have not been able to enjoy Passover. Sitting beside her was a non-responsive Jewish resident who had never shown any emotion during any past meetings with her. As I looked at her this particular morning, there were tears flowing down her face. I knew then, that I had made a difference!  JL

April 21, 2011-TL always admired the work done by Jewish Pavilion and had been a longtime supporter. More importantly, TL became a most appreciative recipient of its services. TL felt that a charitable donation from her estate would help provide for the Pavilion’s ongoing needs and services. Her family was most pleased to carry out TL wishes by providing a generous donation.

April 20, 2011-The Passover celebration was beautiful, thanks to you. It was perfect in every way. You had all the Passover items, and the residents were thrilled. Your readings, explanations and songs were very well received. Be sure to tell the Administrator of Regent Park of the excellent job that June did with the table settings and matzo ball soup. Everything was perfect! The Pavilion is so lucky to have you.

April 20, 2011-I was privileged to go to Longwood with the fifth grade class. What a wonderful experience for all. Watching the seniors’ eyes light up as recognition dawned for Dayenu was almost as thrilling as hearing voices young and old singing together. CKR

March 3, 2011-It is a wonderful organization of really committed people! SS

February 18, 2011-My Mom so enjoyed the visits and celebrations to Emeritus by The Jewish Pavilion. Thank you for bringing the holidays to her. BA

January 31, 2011-Before my parents moved into assisted living, I was concerned about finding the right fit for my parents.  Both were active members of their synagogue.  Both were integral cores of the Fort Myers Jewish community.
When I found out about the Jewish Pavilion, I could not believe my good fortune.  They helped me find a place for my parents that fit their needs.  If that wasn’t enough, they provided programming that helped fill the cultural gap that was left behind by their move.   Both of my parents looked forward to the Pavilion’s visits.  They scheduled their lives around these events.  The programming became increasingly important as my father’s health declined and my parents became more home bound.   Although my dad passed away this December, and my mom will be moving into our home, I will always be indebted to the kindness of the Jewish Pavilion.  In my opinion, this is one of the few organizations that truly help to support and change people’s lives.   My husband and I will always be a supporter of the Pavilion.  The elderly are often a forgotten generation.  The Jewish Pavilion makes sure that they are respected and uplifted.  Who can ask for anything more? PJ

January 12, 2011-Ella and Ben Colley, ages 8 and 5 wanted to do something special for the Jewish Pavilion after visiting Madison House with their grandmother, volunteer , Flory Kahn. They loved talking with the residence there, making cards for them and just talking about their school, and asking them questions. When they left, they wanted to do something more and thought of making a donation to the Jewish Pavilion by having a Lemonade and Orange Juice stand outside their home in Longwood. They raised $10.00 and proudly brought it to the Jewish Pavilion ( in a paper cup!) where director Nancy Ludin and office manager, Wendy Levine thanked them both very much. Anyone at any age can help enhance the lives of our elders in Long Term Care by strengthening their connection to the community.  Become a volunteer with the Jewish Pavilion and make a difference!

December 27, 2010-My Aunt Reva lived at Chambrel for two years before she passed away.  I remember hearing in her voice how excited she would get when she had a visit from a volunteer from the Jewish Pavilion. Aunt Reva would share with me, the wonderful programs she attended organized by the JP, especially Shabbat. For me knowing when I was unavailable to visit Aunt Reva for a few days, she would never be lonely because she would be getting a visit soon.  Now my mother-in-law Florence lives at Chambrel. She has expressed how kind the volunteers are that visit from JP too.  I’ve heard from Nancy Ludin on several occasions, with questions of concern for Florence, making sure she is happy and well taken care of. When Florence moved in three months ago, my husband and I knew it would be a difficult adjustment from living on her own. Nancy put us at ease with details  from a JP volunteer that just visited Florence, or a great program she attended.  I recently too, became a volunteer with the Jewish Pavilion.  I tagged along with another volunteer for a day, and we visited a lovely senior resident.  We were welcomed with open arms and our “new friend” was very grateful for our company. Our visit was short and sweet but truly rewarding for me too. I have since visited her a few more times since that first meeting. Our lives are busy with family and work, but I make sure when I visit my mother-in-law each week, I give a little of my time to see another senior resident at Chambrel.   To see that smile from a “new friend” after our visit, is the best medicine in the world.  S&SL

December 9, 2010-Thank you for your ongoing support upon Mama’s passing. The happy moments that you brought to her in her years at The Mayflower are too numerous to mention. At the very least, you and your “angels” were her Jewish life link. which was so very important to her. She was made happy and energized by your wonderful members who came to visit on a regular basis. With deep appreciation, P& H L and the entire family.

December 2, 2010-Thank you for making today such a special day for so many people! The residents and staff were very pleased and appreciative of all our efforts. Both the Executive Director and Activities Director had only nice things to say about us.
I have been here for over 10 years and we have never had such a lovely Hanukkah Party.” It was a pleasure to see you, to meet you and to meet other residents and staff at these facilities. I believe that we have now established a good relationship with both Regents Park and The Westchester.  Today, one of our guests (a non- jew), was so moved by our celebrations … that he gave me a gift to “pass on” . After the party, he went to his room and then came back (as we were cleaning up) and handed me something very special.  He gave me … 4 packages, which contained un-circulated “1967 Jerusalem Specimen Coins”. Now, after all these years, he wanted to give them away … to a young person … for their Bar or Bat Mitzvah. I thanked him profusely and promised him that I would … and I will.  His name is Bob Wright and he is a resident at The Westchester.  It really was a wonderful party ~ Thank you again !! Wishing you and your family a Happy Hanukkah.  Warmly, Judy

November 5, 2010 – This organization meant so much to my mother-even before it benefited her.  She sincerely appreciated and enjoyed the volunteer visits.  We cannot thank you enough for all the good works of your organization.  F&IL

September 20, 2010 – Just a note to let you know how appreciative we are of all you do for the Jewish Community at Horizon Bay. I remember what a wonderful time we all had at the Shabbat service with Annie.  She is still talking about the challah and cookies and of course “Bim Bam.”  Nice memories. PE

March 3, 2010 -  I want to thank you for the Jewish Pavilion and what you and your volunteers do for our elderly.  My mother, Ida,  is at  Madison House, off Dr. Phillips Rd., and she really looks forward to the visits from Susan. Thanks again, Marion

February 26, 2010-I would like to thank all of you at the Pavilion for the wonderful support that you provide.  My parents feel welcomed and part of a community.  In many ways you are a life line for them.  Thanks again for all the wonderful programming.
Sincerely, Peggy

December 15, 2009 – I want to express in this card about the wonderful person Gay Harrison is and how she and all the people that attended The Jewish Pavilion’s wonderful membership luncheon were to me.  It was my birthday and the well wishes and smiles that I got and loving all of them saying Happy Birthday to me, was one of the most wonderful birthdays I’ve ever had, and Gay giving me a birthday present that I admired.  Love, Alice Schnur

October 16, 2009: We appreciate your wonderful visits to see our mom, a resident of Westminster Towers Health Center, in downtown Orlando.  Under the circumstances she is doing reasonably well.  Thank you again for your visits, both at holiday time and others.  Les, Faith & Ella S.

June 8, 2009: The Heritage at Lake Forest “We have received excellent support from The Jewish Pavilion here at The Heritage at Lake Forest. Your support not only supports but improves our programs for all our Jewish residents. We have regular Jewish services, a monthly Shabbat dinner, planted a fig tree for TuBishvat, and had Purim, Passover and Hanukkah programs. These programs are not only enjoyed by our Jewish residents but by all who attended.

May 26, 2009: Thank you so much for sending the clown! He is wonderful. The residents in our Memory Care were enthralled by him. He kept their attention throughout his entire show – impressive! What a wonderful gift and blessing is laughter! Thank you, Brenda S., Memory Care Director.

Mar 10, 2009: Thank you so much for thinking of me & my family during this time. I really appreciate your thoughfulness. I hope you are doing well. All the best. Joanne B.

Mar 4, 2009: I really appreciate when the Jewish Pavilion comes to see us. This is especially because there are so few Jews in this place [facility]. It means so very much to me. Thank you. Thank you! Hannah F.

Nov 5, 2008: “MY STORY” by Willie the Clown (Bill K) I am a volunteer for The Jewish Pavilion. My job is to make the residents in every Pavilion facility laugh. Well, they can either laugh at me or with me. It doesn’t matter as long as I can bring a smile to their faces. Once, I helped an old woman sit on a couch. She said she had always wanted to sit on a clown’s lap. I told her after the show, I would make her dream come true. During the show, I offered a $1,000,000 bill with my clown’s face on it if someone could answer a question. The woman who I had helped to the sofa won the $1,000,000. After the show, I sat down next to her so she could sit on my lap. She said, “Get away from me. You’re just after me for my money!” So, who has more fun—them or me? I think it’s a toss up, but I hope they have a lot of fun watching a silly old man make a fool of himself!

Nov 5, 2008: Steve S. holds the hand of Lucy, a Jewish long-term care resident at Conway Lakes Health & Rehab Center in Orlando. Steve said, “She reminded me of my grandmother.” The blanket keeping Lucy warm was knitted for her by Jewish Pavilion volunteer Lillian T. Lucy was thrilled about his visit. Lucy’s daughter called while Steve was there, and Lucy told her daughter that family had come to see her. Without Jewish Pavilion involvement, Lucy would be completely cut off from the Jewish community. Steve said after the visit, “Nothing in my Jewish Pavilion experience has been more rewarding than to have been welcomed by one of the residents served by The Jewish Pavilion. I was humbled by Lucy’s pure and very real appreciation of such a simple visit, and I am more determined than ever to make certain the work done by the Pavilion not only continues but also grows and strengthens throughout the years.”

Sept 17, 2008. My brother Les, sister-in-law Ella and I would like to thank the Jewish Pavilion for their ongoing visits to our mother, Sarah. She is in the Health Center at Westminster Towers and has been there for about four years. Your visits are greatly appreciated. Faith S.

August 20, 2008: I think you are aware of my great appreciation of the support that the Jewish Pavilion provided in our time of need. As you have probably heard many times from others with their own stories, The Pavilion and it’s volunteers not only gave hope and compassion to my mother, father, and family, but provided a much needed and welcomed Jewish sense of comfort and concern when things seemed bleak and hopeless in strange and uncertain surroundings. The advice and suggestions given us by The Jewish Pavilion and its wonderful staff were invaluable. The situation would have been overwhelming for my father had the people associated with The Jewish Pavilion, not given of their time and effort. It was a true blessing for our family. Lawrence G.

August 25, 2008: I do enjoy conducting the Friday service at Chambrel and bringing a little pleasure into the lives of the residents. They are so appreciative when I come there, and I get so much gratification from it, that it is their mitzvah to me to let me lead them. Robin K.

July 02, 2008: wanted to take a moment to write and let you know how important Share the Care was for my Dad and especially my Mom. Your respite program enabled my Mom to have some time to herself when she didn’t have to worry a bit about my father. Your program provided a safe and caring environment for my father and being at the JCC was even better surroundings for my Dad. He always showed us his latest craft projects, was able to answer whether he saw the little ones at Shabbat and could tell us if he was able to read a few jokes to the visitors at Share the Care. Thank you very much for such a worthwhile program and for making a difference in our lives. Please pass this message on to the caregivers at the JCC Share the Care Program. Miriam N.

May 25, 2008 : In case you did not have a chance to see the paper today I looked and Audrey’s obit was in there and to top it off her family made a request in the obit for all donations to be made to the Jewish Pavilion, I am so very touched by this, I guess they did realize how much their Mom benefited from our outreach program and thought you both would want to know this. Hugs, Ellen H.

May 16, 2008: Each time I make my visit I try to think about what [one particular] resident would like to hear. I know the communication is a challenge because she does not speak English only Spanish. Fortunately, I speak Spanish which made it easier for us to communicate. This pleased her very much. What I found interests her is Spanish songs. She likes to sing with me and I have found that she helps me finish a song that I keep forgetting the words to. Every once in a while I speak with her daughter who is appreciative of my visits. Corie G.

May 09, 2008: When I learned that one of the residents of the Pavilion at Crossing Pointe was a Holocaust survivor, I wanted my 12-year-old daughter to see her as a “witness”. The next time Rachel was with me, Anna sat down with us, even though I hadn’t asked, and told us her story — something we should never forget. Laurie L.

May 09, 2008: When we were visiting Alice one day, one of the nurses asked Alice who Evan was. She told him that Evan was her grandson. Then, she said to the nurse, I guess that he is not really my grandson, but I see him every week and feel so close to him, whereas I hardly know my real grandson. Evan invited Alice to his bar mitzvah. We arranged for a limo driver to pick Alice up and bring her to services. She had never ridden in a fancy car before. She normally only leaves the nursing home every other month. Evan spoke about his relationship with Alice from the bima and introduced her to friends and family. It was a very special day for Alice. Nancy L.

May 05, 2008: When we were first starting at Merrill Gardens (then Chancellor Park), we were holding High Holy Day services. I had a gentlemen with a severe case of Altzheimer’s Disease; to the extent that he was totally non-communicative. He just sat in his wheel chair and drooled. In the middle of services he started singing the prayers. Here he was, unable to talk, but that connected him. Needless to say, I (and most of the other people present) got a chill up our spines. I’ve been doing Merrill Gardens ever since. Phil B.

Feb. 23, 2007: Regarding your visit to my husband Gerald at the Rehabilitation Center in Winter Park, the two ladies, Pat & Arlene, were delightfully gracious & appreciated. Your good work to cheer the troubled is so appreciated. Sincerely, Rosalyn S.
